Cut Out & Keep Diary

Wednesday 2nd July - Supper in Scarborough

led by Andrew Lodge

Meet at Orlandos diner on the A642 near the Grange Moor roundabout at 5:30 for departure soon afterwards. Full tanks please.

Should anybody from the Wakefield area wish to join us we will have a brief pause at the Crofton Arms (near the Redbeck café) at about 6:00 so they are welcome to join us there

Sunday 6th July - Ullswater & North Pennines

led by Tony Bell

Meet & fill (to the brim if your tank is capacity-challenged) at the petrol station in Pool-in-Wharfedale, to the NW of Leeds on the A658 Bradford-Harrogate Road, at 09.00hrs for an 09.15hrs prompt start.

On this 260 mile rideout there’ll be a wide variety of biking roads ranging from the annoying bottleneck through Windermere to the 4-mile climb from Melmerby to Hartside Café, regarded by many as England’s best: A technically challenging sinuous ribbon of top quality, grippy Tarmac with more bends than you can shake a stick at; however, its not all beer and skittles, some of the bends are of the tightening variety so take care, especially if you’ve not done it before.

From Pool we’ll skirt north of Skipton and Settle to Ribblehead and a coffee stop at the Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes. We then head west through Sedburgh and Kendal to Windermere, over the Kirkstone Pass, along the side of Ullswater and up to the highest café in England, at Hartside Height in the northern Pennines, for lunch. Next, its down the bleak but picturesque Upper Teesdale road and across to Brough and Kirkby Stephen before travelling the length of the beautiful Upper Eden Valley. Finally we descend Wensleydale to Ripon and head back to Pool.

I’ll be on a 51 reg black/silver ‘Blade; for any queries or a chat please ring me on 0113 2256627.” – Tony

Sunday 13th July - Fiddling Cat Run

led by Harry truelove

Meet at Redbeck Cafe on A638 Doncaster Road Wakefield http://tinyurl.com/5y5lvd at 9:30 to leave at 9:45, I will be riding a black Z1000.The run will be approx 150 miles and will take in a wide variety of A, B & minor roads in Derbyshire including the Cat & Fiddle, Snake Pass & part of Woodhead Pass.We will be stopping at the Cat & Fiddle Inn for refreshments before heading on to Matlock.Matlock will be tricky asis usually extremely busy.We will have to park where we can and meet up again just outside Matlock for the homeward leg but full details on this will be explained on the day.The route, which takes in some spectacular roads through and views of the dales, regardless of the weather (yes, I was insane enough to try it in the rain!), is accessible to all and would be good as a first run.If you want any further info, just give me a call 07985 129209. Harry

Sunday 20th July - Snowdonia – led by Tony Bell

This 325 mile run is for those who like making good progress on superb biking roads in spectacular scenery. We’ll use the motorway network to get to Wales, giving us plenty of time for a 185 mile ride-out in another country. It will be a more challenging day than most WYAMs runs, so, bearing the motorway sections and the overall distance in mind, it is recommended that members only attempt it if they (and their bike!) feel comfortable travelling at around the national speed limit where conditions allow. Pillions are welcome of course.

Meet at Hartshead Moor services (westbound, between junctions 26 & 25 of the M62) at 08:45 for an 09:00 start, with more than enough fuel for the 70 miles or so to a coffee/petrol stop just after the end of the motorway and before the border. We’ll then take some real biking roads into the national park and to the Electric Mountain Cafe in Llanberis for lunch. The mix of good A and B roads will continue as we complete the circle back to Ruthin, and we’ll be back in Yorkshire by about 18:00hrs.

I’ll be on a 51 reg black/silver ‘Blade; for any queries or a chat please ring me on 0113 2256627.” – Tony
